I look beyond

At the twinkling stars

Like the rolling tides of the sea

Almost endless in quantity

They twirl and dance

Wrapped in the great blanket

That holds them

Captive

They are captivating

In their endless dance

With fate

With time

With eternity

But I cannot look beyond them

For they are glimpses

Of foreign worlds

Of different places

Free from my grasp

On reality

They are beyond what I know

What I may uncover and dream

They are beyond

The place I call home

Away from the toils

Of my present state

Of my present being

Beyond my small world

Beyond me

They are dancing away from me

Beyond what I can see

Fading

Glowing

Triumphing

Falling

Failing

And leaping

To shine brighter than before

Even on the darkest of nights

Yet, they are dancing away from me

Oh, how beautiful

Oh, how wonderful

Beyond what I can see

Oh, how inspiring

Oh, how wonderful

Across the night sky stage

And as the curtain falls

I know they are

Beyond.

I wrote this poem back in 2020 after stargazing late at night. While the poem may be about the humbling experience of looking up at the vast night sky and realizing how small one is in comparison to the universe, I wrote it to put my setbacks and successes into perspective.

Life is full of the unknown. So, whenever it gets dark and you can't see ahead, it's important to hold on to your dreams and goals and keep working toward them, because your goals are not beyond you, no matter how far away they may seem.

Life will keep moving forward, good and bad days will come, and sometimes one's goals will seem too distant to achieve, but I've learned over the years to keep moving forward through the good and the bad. The twists and turns of life, or the unknown, may be beyond my understanding, but I'm going to keep reaching for the stars.

Thank you for reading.
